Technologies
World Access for the Blind
will be an active proponent of technological advance in the field of blindness.
We will augment the use of speech and Braille technology by providing
interactive and entertaining software that will help train blind persons to
sharpen their motor and auditory reflexes in the same way that video games are
used by the sighted. We will augment the established technologies of white cane
travel and guide dogs travel with the emerging technology supporting human
echolocation. Echolocation can be
accomplished with the aid of ultrasonic sonar devices and by the use of trained
use of sonic echoes. An excellent explanation on the nature of echolocation
(click here to view document) has been written by Dan Kish
who has also completed a Master's Thesis on the topic.
Sonic echolocation can be enhanced by providing
an idealized echo-sounding
device. The best known ultra sonic device for echolocation is KASPA
which was created and promoted by Dr. Leslie Kay. World Access for the Blind
will be promoting the use and development of both of these technologies.
